This matcha bowl is made with a technique called kohiki where the base clay is layered with white clay and then glazed. This gives the bowl its characteristic rustic warmth after it's been fired. Because of the cracks and crevices created with this technique, the bowl is meant to change and "age" with use as tea seeps into the clay base, providing stain and color with use.
Each bowl is unique as the specific surface pattern will differ between pieces.
